“Farewell to Ancient Evenings” was a tribute to the work of Artemisia Gentileschi, the first female member of the Accademia_delle_Arti_del_Disegno in Florence who also had an international clientele. She was also the only female member of the studio of Caravaggio and was virtually written out of art history, many of her works being attributed to Caravaggio himself. She was rediscovered in the mid 20th century largely through the women’s movement and a biography by Germaine Greer.
Ursula Mawson-Raffalt’s drawings for the choreographic structures and thence the floor design were based on the structures of a group of her paintings. These were then taken and used as the basis for the development of the floor and light design by Anthony J F Mawson The Sound layer was developed using layering techniques developed by Anthony J F Mawson and sound sources selected by Ursula Mawson-Raffalt. The movement structures are grounded in “The Focus Point Technique” developed over many years by Ursula Mawson-Raffalt and the presentation frame in chance driven methods also developed over many years by Anthony J F Mawson. It was presented in 1999 in Berlin Kreuzberg in Ballhaus Naunynstrasse with support from Ballhaus and from Kunstamt Kreuzberg.
